Baiona with about 10 000 inhabitants has a magnificent location. At a
peninsula outside the town there is a former castle, which today is a
Parador. Downtown is another very interesting hotel. This is a great
summer location. Back in 1493, Columbus came ashore here with the ship
Pinta to tell about the discovery of America.

Two well known men have their origins from Orense; Julio Iglesias, the
world famous singer and Fidel Castro (his forefathers came from this
area). Ourense's old town is interesting and there is also a Roman
bridge (and a beautiful new bridge)! The best accommodation alternative
is in Bentraces, 8 km south of Ourense.

Santiago de Compostela is the "Jewel in the Galician crown". The apostle
James was buried here (but that is perhaps not really a fact!) But what
is a fact is that the cathedral built on his grave is fantastic. The
town has much interesting architecture to offer as well. But compared to
the historic towns of Castilla and Andalucía, Santiago de Compostela
will come behind as an interesting historical town.
Every year more than 100
000 peoples (pilgrims and tourists) visit Santiago. When visiting
Santiago de COmpostela, try to include one of the attractive towns of
Casilla in your journey as well.
