Mallorca is for many tourists sun and charter holidays. Millions of
tourists from Northern Europe (and Spain) have visited this island. New and
cheaper destianstions have emerged, but Mallorca is still very popular.
Mallorca do have a beautiful nature, something quit different from some of
the Canary Islands! And new and interesting accommodation alternatives are
launched all the time. But most of them are pretty expensive.
Is it wise to visit Mallorca outside the high season, because in August,
more than 300 000 tourists are staying on Mallorca every night. April (30
000 every night) and October is good months with OK temperature, but not too
many tourists. |

Port
d'Andratx is one of Mallorca's most beautiful harbours. Andratx, 5 km
inland, is a quiet small town located in great nature. Here are sometimes
art exhibitions with well known artists. Port d'Andratx doesn't have any
beaches, but is an Eldorado for the boat people. |

The big attraction in Artá is Santuari de Sant Salvador which is located
high above the town. There are 6 000 inhabitants in the area of Artá.
The location is superb and here is a very interesting hotel. Artá has
been inhabited for at least 3 000 years!

Pollenca (8 000 inhabitants) do have old and tiny streets and the stair, Via Crucis. Ponte Romá,
the Roman bridge is interesting as well. If you want to stay in a small (but
not too small) town, Pollenca is a good alternative, but most people will
think Sóller is an even better one.
Port de Pollenca is located at the coast, 6 km outside Pollenca. This resort
town has been popular for a long time. Agatha Christie's "Problem at Pollensa
Bay" did happen here. |

Sineu is today just a small town of 3 000 inhabitants. But from the
beginning of the 13th century and until the middle of the 14th century Sineu
was the capital of Mallorca. If you want to experience a town with not too
many tourists, Sineu is a good choice. Located in the middle of the he
island, Sóller, Palma or Artá is reached in 45 minutes. |

These two towns which are 3 km apart do have 12 000 inhabitants all
together. Port de Sóller is located at the sea, Sóller inland. A small train
connects the towns. And a "Nostalgic train" connect Sóller with Palma.
Sóller is one of Mallorca's highlights. The main attraction in Port de
Sóller isn't the buildings, but the location. Together these two towns are a
unique combination . There are many very interesting hotels in Sóller. And
Fornalutx, Deiá and Valldemoos aren't far away. One week in this area will
be a delight! |

Some visits do make history. The visit of the composer Chopin and the author
George Sand (she was Chopin's mistress) to Valldemossa in 1838 won't be
forgotten soon. Valldemossa is a nice town, but the visit in 1838 is the
main reason for it's popularity. |

There are no mountains and pretty few tourists on Menorca. There aren't many
interesting hotels here either and the island is a bit small. A combination
of the two islands can be a better choice.

Like everywhere in Spain,
there are much to see and admire on Ibiza. But if you aren't looking for a
party island with alcohol and drugs, there are several much better
destinations in Spain! If you are visiting Ibiza, please try the beautiful
town of Eivissa and come outside the main season (early spring is a good
time for a visit).
