An idyllic white village in the

the old centre is just a delight.

Casares is a beautiful
town in the mountains, just a little mile away from the coast and Estepona.
The short distance to the coast makes it very popular and this
popularity will perhaps at the end destroy it's charm.

Gaucín is a very popular
white town with about 1 800 inhabitants. There are several very
interesting accommodation alternatives. Try to visit this enchanting
town outside the tourist season and get some very romantic days. When
driving A 369
from the coast and north to Ronda, you will pass by Gaucín.

This white town with all
it's sculptures is so beautiful that it really "nocks your socks of".
Drive north A 369 from the coast direction Ronda and make a detour to
Genalguacil with it's 700 inhabitants. It's possible to rent an
apartment for a week if you wish to stay.

Málaga with it's 600 000 inhabitants isn't dominated by foreigners like
many other towns at Costa del Sol. Málaga do also have several
attractions like the Picasso Museum and the Castle (Alcazaba). Most
tourists visiting Costa del Sol are reaching Andalucía by Málaga
Airport. Perhaps you should stop a night or two in this town before
travelling further on? |

Marbella is the town to stay if you would like to be in a big and very
well kept town at Costa del Sol. If you have loads of money, Puerto Banús,
a bit south of Marbella will be the best option. For most of us Marbella
will do! Except the the most expensive hotels of Marbella, the prices
aren't higher than many tourists can afford. But there are many towns
and cities in Spain which are more interesting to visit than Marbella.
The best option is to stop here when driving around in this area. The
climate is superb! |

Nerja doesn't have all the
modern apartment blocks which dominate many of the other towns along the
Spanish Mediterranean coast. Nerja with it's 15 000 inhabitants is a
quiet and atmospheric town east of Málaga. Just outside Nerja is
Cuevas de Nerja, some big
caves where during the summer months concerts are arranged !

Many Spanish towns do have
a spectacular situation, but few beat Ronda! On the photo above we can
see the Parador situated at the top of the gorge and the bridge crossing
the gorge. Many tourists visit Ronda. Please try be there during the low
season or at least stay one night or more. During the middle of the day
there are buses and buses with visitors from Costa del Sol, making the
town too busy. Except the bridge and the old town, Plaza de Toros (perhaps
the most important bull ring in Spain)
is a major sight. You will of course admire the bull ring just as an
architectural site, not visiting a bull match!! There is a growing
opposition to this bestial sport/"amusement" in Spain, particularly in
Catalonia. |
