The two Basque provinces of Guipuzcoa (along the coast west of the French boarder) and Vizcaya (west of Guipuzcoa) has a very atypical Spanish landscape. Here are tiny green valleys, some full of beautiful farms, other full of industry, cars and apartment blocks. There are several "Agroturismo" alternatives in this region.

Carlton is a real 5 star hotel with luxury all around! During the summer months, a couple of nights here while visiting the Guggernheim Museum can be recommended. The prices aren't extreme during the summer time. After a couple of nights, please head for the much more interesting town of San Sebastián.
